This apparatus is intended to be fitted to the SATRA Slip Resistance Tester (STM 603) to provide a frozen surface for testing footwear and attachments.

It consists of an ice tray placed on to the moving test carriage of the SATRA Slip Resistance Tester and a second fixed tray mounted onto the baseboard.

The ice tray is temperature adjustable down to -10ºC and can represent different surface conditions from dry to wet, for example frozen solid, melting or frosted.

Prior to testing with the ice tray, footwear can be conditioned at room temperature or in the fixed tray using a solution of methylated spirits and water held at a low temperature.

To smooth the surface of the ice between tests and to give uniform test conditions, a heated metal block or hot knife is also fitted.
